PPG has partnered with the Wildlife Habitat Council, a non-profit organization, to promote environmental stewardship through habitat conservation and development on company-owned property since 1994. PPG has worked with the Wildlife Habitat Council to create and maintain wildlife habitats at operating plants in North America with five Certified Wildlife Habitats in Canada, the US and Mexico. These habitats are staffed by employees, who volunteer their time and energy to maintain the sites and promote outreach and use by the local communities.

Teacher Belinda Diaz from Colegio Real de Querenda school in San Juan del Rio, Mexico, helps two Pittsburgh area students investigate plants and insects in the butterfly habitat at PPG’s Monroeville Chemical Center in Pennsylvania. Employee volunteers at PPG's San Juan del Rio coatings plant have joined with their counterparts at the company’s Monroeville facility to study the migration of monarch butterflies from Pennsylvania to their winter home at the Rosario monarch reserve near San Juan del Rio. Employees are involving teachers and students from nearby schools as part of the Wings of Wonder program facilitated by the Wildlife Habitat Council. In 2003, a six-member contingent of teachers who assist in maintaining the butterfly habitat in Monroeville visited Mexico, meeting with teachers and students. And in 2004, a contingent from Mexico visited Monroeville. Both trips were partly funded by the PPG Industries Foundation. |
PPG endeavors to understand and manage environmental impacts to land and groundwater associated with our operating activities (past and present), products and services. PPG accomplishes this by identifying and managing remediation projects to:
- protect human health and the environment
- comply with applicable standards
- resolve environmental liabilities
- return sites to productive and beneficial use
PPG conducts site assessments to assist our businesses in managing environmental liabilities associated with the acquisition or sale of businesses and property. PPG also conducts periodic assessments of our existing facilities to insure that they are environmentally stable and in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
